New York rap artist Cam'ron was shot through both arms early Sunday morning during what his manager described as a botched attempt to steal the singer's Lamborghini. The artist is recovering at Howard University Hospital, said his manager, Big Joe. The shooting took place at approximately 12:15 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of New York and New Jersey avenues in Washington, police spokesman Sgt. Joe Gentile said.
Cam'ron, at the wheel of the Lamborghini, was approached by one of two men riding in a burgundy Ford Expedition, police said. The man approaching the car was armed shot Cam'ron when he attempted to drive away.
The gunman and the other passenger fled the scene and crashed the Expedition in the 600 block of U Street NW.
"Both subjects made good their escape" and the shooting is under investigation, said Gentile.
Both men in the Expedition were black males, asaid Gentile. The gunman, he said, was about 6 feet tall with long dreadlocks and was believed to be in his late 20s.
Gentile could not say if either man in the Expedition was injured in the crash. Cam'ron was in stable condition when he was admitted to the hospital.
