Due to the failure to the DC Department of Parks and Recreation to take the necessary action to ensure that the sewing classes that have been offered at the Kennedy Recreation Center by ANC 2C01-based nonprofit Singa, Inc. continued to be offered there, these popular classes will now be held at a location outside of the neighborhood. Because so many neighborhood residents have expressed interest in these classes, the information on the next set of classes, which will be held at 608 Rhode Island Avenue, NE, is provided below.
Sewing I
This class is designed for the beginner. Learn the basic fundamentals: introduction to the sewing machine, sewing terms, equipment and notions, information on fabrics, patterns, and pressing techniques that will prepare you for advanced sewing classes. One sewing project completes the class. Eight-session classes meet on Mondays, October 24, 2005?December 12, 2005, from 6:45 PM?8:45 PM. Fee: $125.00; Seniors-$62.50; Non DC Residents: $148.00.

Plus, you will learn how to select the appropriate fabrics, how to layout, mark and cut, construct a fitted waistband, put in darts, and insert a zipper. Eight-session classes meet on Wednesdays, October 26, 2005-December 14, 2005, from 6:45 PM?8:45 PM. Fee: $125.00; Seniors-$62.50; Non DC Residents: $148.00.
