Please see the message pasted below from one of the proprietors of Be Bar, the lounge slated to open at 1318 9th Street, NW. I am supporting their efforts and voted against an ANC 2C protest opposing the license application for this new establishment, which would be gay-owned and operated. If you support our community's continued diversity and economic revitalization, I urge you to make your opinion known to the ABC Board.

Hello Friends, Neighbors and Supporters:
Please be advised that the roll call hearing for the application of a liquor license by Be Bar at 1318 9th Street NW is scheduled as follows:
Wednesday, April 19th, 10:00 am
941 North Capitol Street NW
7th Floor Hearing Room
As many of you may have heard, Mike Watson and I are planning on opening an upscale tavern/lounge at this address. Our target market includes people who live in downtown DC in the surrounding neighborhoods. We will also offer private catered events during the day to convention center visitors.
As a result of the amount of press given to this story, Be Bar has earned praise and support from many in the neighborhood, including members of the Logan Circle advisory neighborhood commission, Shaw Main Streets, as well as the community at large. Many individuals have indicated their overwhelming support for our venue and as a result will be in attendance to share their voice. We also expect a large media presence at the hearing.
In light of the negative statements made by individuals within the community, our venue is threatened. This segment of limited, yet very vocal opposition, has made numerous false statements and homophobic remarks including that we intend to open a nightclub catering only to people from Maryland and Virginia and that we will turn away DC residents at the door. These false statements are intended to incite a negative backlash against us and potentially draw a larger opposition to our business.
Currently, we are seeking individuals who support our venue to appear at the roll-call hearing on April 19th. Should you feel strongly about our venue and wish to offer your support, we would greatly appreciate it. We recognize the difficulty in taking time from your busy day to help us in our efforts to build our community, but perhaps you can plan now to take the morning off or an early lunch or just an hour to come down and show your support? Any and all support would be greatly appreciated!
Please share this email with individuals you feel may be able to show their support! Also, please send me the email addresses of those not included on this mailing, so that we can add them to the list for updates.
Thanking you in advance.
